Make It Safe.
Children are naturally curious about many of the weird and wonderful things found around the home. We understand this and know how important it is for a child’s world to be kept safe and secure. This is why all of our blinds come fitted with safety devices in line with the latest European regulations.
Child Safety Devices.
By law, designs with cords or chains must always be secured with a child safety device, whether or not you have children living with you. This is because little ones may visit your home from time to time. And if you decide to move, the blinds that you leave behind must be safe for the new owners:
Our standard Roman blinds are fitted to a chain operated track system. The chain must not hang any lower than a height of at least 1.5 metres from the ground.
The chains can be either a continuous loop which is anchored to the wall by a safety device to prevent it from swinging free (ideal for heavy blinds) or with a safety connector which holds the two ends of the chain together (can hang no lower them 60cm of the floor so better choice for low windows) - when put under pressure the safety connector will pop undone to prevent any accidents. These are also easy to reassemble if you pull a control too hard and they end up breaking away accidentally. We also supply the new duel rise system which has two control chins with weighted pulls, no loop for little ones to get caught up in. Please ask us for more information.
We are here to Help.
Ask us about child safety devices if you are unsure what the best option is for your needs. There are a couple of additional steps you can take to ensure that your blinds and curtains are child safe:
Keep all cords and chains out of the reach of children using the safety hooks and cleats which have been fitted for you.
Loose cords or chains should never be tied together.
Furniture that children could climb on should be kept away from your windows.
For you have already purchased blinds - from elsewhere and you are unsure if they are safe - we can provide you with advice and arrange to make them safe if needed. To find out more about blind & cord safety visit www.makeitsafe.org.uk
